Through the site those wanting to donate to mission work being done in Nicaragua can give money for specific items in need. For instance, you can donate money for a cement block mold, give some fundage for balls and school supplies for the tots or even purchase shovels and/or wheelbarrows for fellow Christians down south! At the very least you should go check it out and tell your friends. It has recently become re-apparent to me that how happy we are on a consistent basis is affected of two things: our faith and our outlook on our surrounding conditions. These two things obviously intertwine, but interact in strange ways. In faith we can be content with any condition that we live in, see, or face; yet many believers find themselves unsatisfied with their lives because of conditions. Some are true hardships (which we all have), but many of our conditions are really just expectations and standards we have set up for ourselves in order achieve a look, status, or to feel like we have an identity. These expectations and standards are sometimes the same reasons why a couple will choose to live in one neighborhood instead of another, why some of us want new clothes all the time (guilty, not gonna lie), and why get groceries here and not there.

What is really better about one thing over another if they come from the same source? Is "premium" coffee really "premium" when it comes down to it, or is it just a name on a bag? Do we really need to have everything fit our conception of what is good, better, or bad? I don't. I think we should be willing and open to consider the possibility that the worst may be the best when you're sitting on the other side of the fence.

This is an "to each his own" kind of situation. You may not care at all and prefer brand names over store brand items and live in a nice home having all you need and that is more than fine. It's great! Because God blessed you with the means and ability to attain those things. But we cannot get trapped in the conditions, expectations, and opinions that can result from losing sight of what God has given us. Having more is not better, it's different. Some of the happiest people I have seen in my entire life shared a room with a dirt floor, a rusted tin roof with holes and concrete blocks walls with 8 people every night. They were content. I struggle with this, so that's why I'm writing it out and I think it's natural in our culture to do so. But we shouldn't be okay with that. I refuse to. I have enough and when I look back God has always given me more than enough. But here's the kicker. When it comes down to it, I don't deserve a thing from him.
This was posted at www.blogger.com.

Just One Away Documentary

Please go watch parts one and two of this documentary made by some seniors at Clemson University. It may be that the things we find shameful about ourselves are the very devices God uses to draw people to us. It is strange and wonderful to be able to tell someone anything about yourself and have them hear it, take it, and move on with you. God seems to give one person a puzzle piece that fits right into someone else's. There is something good in that which I cannot really define and completely comprehend, but love.

This is short because it is simple. The things that make us what we are were put there to help us find just what we need. We may or may not see it coming. I like it when it just shows up and surprises you.. the beauty is in the waiting for it.

jm

I will give you the treasures of darkness,
riches stored in secret places,
so that you know that I am the Lord,
the God of Israel, who summons you by name.
Isa 45.3
This was posted at www.blogger.com.

Haiti

This is going to be short. For me, it's waiting for graduation on Thursday, a flight to a foreign country to do missions later this month, and finding out where I'm going to be working next year. In a time when I want to be impatient, I'm really getting excited about the possibilities that are in front of me. There are great people I could meet, new events I have the opportunity to experience, and different roads I can travel in a short amount of time.

As it turns out, the joy in thinking of all these possibilities is without end. Often we forget that amazing things can happen because we only expect an average outcome to occur. When we expect the least, we cut God out of the equation (I would say we're cutting out hope, because the two are directly related; but no God means no one made hope). This digression could be extended for a few paragraphs but it's more beneficial to say it only once this way:

Christ rose from the dead and sent the Spirit to empower and guide us. Therefore we should know that if God wills it, the extraordinary will occur.

We have no reason to not hope and dream for the good things that may come. Even when bad ones are evident and taking their toll on our lives. Regardless of one's situation, there is always a new day ahead that can bring the unexpected and expected if we're willing to open our eyes. Yes, due to our fallen nature it's difficult to continually look at things this way (I fail to more often than I'd like). But in the light of Christ, endless possibilities are abundantly found.
This was posted at www.blogger.com.

What the future holds.

So I'm moving closer and closer towards graduating in December, which means making decisions on where I want to live, and where I want to work. Unfortunately, I'm realizing the full gravity of the situation and don't necessarily like it, but know that it's something I have to deal with. There are some scary things that come along with graduating, because it means starting a new phase in life (as much as I hate to admit it). For me it means that I may not have as much time to write music and play with a band as much as I'm able to now. For others it may mean the start of everything they've been working for over the past four or six (or insert number here __) years. It is slightly terrifying. Not like zombies everywhere terrifying, but enough to shake up your mind a bit. I think it's scary for one real reason: It is sometimes unsettling to see that the decisions you make can alter or change the path your headed down very quickly for better or for worse. Granted, this is something the words "responsibility" and "consequences" have taught us for years, but those words seems to have been reinstated with more power at this point in life for me...which is okay.

I think there is a tendency for us to look at a place we may be going and wonder if we will have success there, or if the right things will come our way (a family, career, wealth, anything). I say that because I have started asking that question myself, and have been realizing at the same time that it is a ridiculous question for me to be asking.

I don't know what the future holds, but I believe it's good because I believe God is good and faithful to those who are faithful. God blesses us in both good and bad situations, no matter where we may go (So why do we worry?). Having Christ as our truth, guide, and focus is what truly matters today. I am becoming increasingly aware of the fact that we are just passersby taking in the view. Sometimes it's good, sometimes it's bad, but the view is there to serve a purpose. And despite what it makes us feel or think, it is important to know and remember that God is with us wherever we go; offering protection, guidance, and grace.
This was posted at www.blogger.com.

To Chicago

Posted via web from joemccready's posterous

This was posted at www.blogger.com.

Glad Eyes (EP) Single Release on Friday

On Friday we're going to release a single from the upcoming Glad Eyes Album release! I say that cause I know it's something I should do and fail to do a lot. It's a little like preparing the way for yourself when you go back from where you came. I feel bad when I get home and know there are people there in need that I have failed to think about or say a prayer for. It takes so little time and can have such a profound effect on their lives and ours. Pray for where you're from, where you're going, and where you might be in the future and that the heart of Jesus will meet you there when you arrive (cause you never know where you'll be next).

joe
This was posted at www.blogger.com.

Staying in Wonder

Staying in wonder is a difficult thing sometimes. Everyday at lunch for the past two months and a few weeks I've looked out the window at the Empire State Building. The first time I saw the skyline from that view I just smiled because I truly didn't know what to say. I want that reaction to be the same every time I see that view. I don't want to forget the things that really impress me about my surroundings...genuine wonder is rare and worth remembering. It's like when you meet someone that just steals your breath and leaves you smiling and you can't figure out why. To be clear, I just want to constantly remind myself that most of the stuff I see isn't by chance.
Every time I ride the subway I want to be amazed that God gave someone the idea of trains traveling underneath the city (with people on them). It's not a simple idea, most things are complicated from the start. Unfortunately, as time passes we take things for granted that were here before us; and in a lot of cases we assume that they got there pretty easily.

Let me prove my point.

If you went up to someone 400 years ago and said, "Hey! Guess what? One day people are going to be traveling under you in the exact spot where you're standing. Oh, and they're not even going to have to move their legs. It will work well, the people will just sit in these big metal tubes that are tied together and move on big strips of metal."

-Immediately after making this statement you might be accused of being a witch.

Main point: We are blessed. The city is really an example of grace. Millions of people get up, go to work, and go home everyday. There are so many intricacies that interconnect the people in the streets and boroughs. It's life, and it shouldn't grow old to us no matter where we are.
This was posted at www.blogger.com.

EP Update and a Article on the Music Industry, etc.

So the New EP, whose title will be officially decided by July (It's pretty concrete now, but will be iron clad once we get some art), once I've had sometime to let it sink in with me and I feel right with it. The songs are currently getting mastered and will be completely ready by June 25th. Stay in touch and give your friends the music you have. Yes, that sounds insane but seriously do it. Let me digress and expound.

GIVE THEM THE MUSIC. Emphasis on the "Give", underline on the "the music." Sharing is caring. The music industry is in shambles due to the fact that until recently major labels have been producing and selling overpriced, bad albums and the masses bought them because it was all they heard on the radio (Don't get me wrong this still happens...a lot.). The democratization of technology (i.e. the ability for anyone to get their hands on all sorts of equipment and software) has made what started as an "arts service" (producing crappy cds) into a commodity. Musical Commodity means musicians produce articles of trade or a product...music is no longer a service (public performances, symphonies, yada yada yada, etc.) within mainstream genres.

This sounds worse than it is. It means that there are now more avenues than ever for finding new music (a.k.a. products), and that more good music is being encouraged to be made (believe me for every new version you see of Nickelback or Lady Gaga, there are a 20 people 10 times more talented that record execs wouldn't give a chance because of looks or even age). But now, those who may not have had access to a studio to try to put something out there can do just that with ease if they just make the effort. And they can do it much, much easier than 10 years ago. For the artist, this unfortunately means that there is a lot more music to sift through; which means getting a lot of people to hear your music is much more difficult to do. The key word here is competition.

This means that the fan has become the most important part of an artists career; they are employees, houses of networking, and most importantly distributors. They "were" before because it sounded nice, but now it is actually true. Radio can't push music to the degree it could before...and if you think radio is democratic then you can probably stop reading this now, because this most likely has made no sense to you. This means that every time you're in the car with someone listening to an artist, you are marketing/distributing them to your friends (Thank you ipod.No Seriously, Thank you.). So here's what I'm getting at when I say, "GIVE THEM THE MUSIC." If you can buy my music thats cool. But to be honest, I'd kill for 200 people to illegally download a single and each of them give it to 10 of their friends for free, and for each of those ten to share it with three of their friends. That's a lot of people. My goal is not to be known and heard by thousands of people. Would I mind it? No, but that's not going to make my life (that is what Salvation is for). Also,
from a marketing perspective doing that just increased my brand awareness by a ridiculous percentage (its no math day...which is most days). Business aside, my goal is to share something with people that makes them smile and shows/gives them two things:

1) The knowledge that Jesus is the bomb diggity and brings lasting joy.

Though not always explicitly said, it is all encompassing- My hope and prayer is that at its best my music may be used as a tool by God to bring people home to Jesus. That's what I've always felt lead to do in a different way. To put the idea out there simply, I think sometimes we talk too much (Christian artists and anyone trying to minister to others in everyday life); maybe we should be quiet and know that God is God and that he has hands much stronger than ours. He can use our relationships with nonbelievers to reach them on a day to day basis just through interacting with them (loving them).

2) Genuine Music.

Why? Because it's the most beautiful kind. Music doesn't have to be hokey and bubble gummy (i.e. most mainstream Christian music...I'm sorry to say). Sometimes worship means the most when your heart is devastated...Do you really think amazing grace was written after John Newton did something really really good? Think about it. How can we relate and reach out to the world if we can't show them that we understand how the heart works?

I want to share this because they're a combination that isn't drenching mainstream genres and it needs to be. Not that it isn't being done-it is. But I want someone to do it in a huge way. That could mean it's done through someone else or even through me; either way building will occur and I think thats good. This isn't really a
"hey the industry is messed up and we need to change it statement", but more of a mission statement. These things don't just apply in the music realm, but in all areas of business. The census is going to be coming in soon that due the recession (and e-commerce) most "traditional" businesses will pretty much be forced to become a commodities. Traditional Advertising, marketing, included. We're going to have to reassess what we value, because once products are being sold instead of services, profits will decrease and so will incomes. Things are changing, and I don't think they're bad changes actually, I think it will be good for us; but I can't say how people will react (my biggest fear is we'll reach a state of denial). But I think if we have to look at what's important in a serious way again, more people will let God enter into their lives in a way that we haven't seen in a while. Who knows? That's what's exciting about it.

I realize this turned into much more than a small update so I apologize; if you made it down here you're probably pretty cool. Thanks for reading and have a stupendous day.

Joe
This was posted at www.blogger.com.

copyrights, birthday, and nuyork

So copyrights are kind of complicated. I forget that and relearn it every time I have to register a new piece of work. Just though you should know.
Maybe you have a sweet elephant powered bus you want to put a claim on or something.

In other news, my mom has wished me happy birthday at least 5 times already since the last time I was home (May 22). My birthday is June 2. It worried me at first that she would confuse so many days for the same one, but then I realized she was just trying to say it as much as possible since she wouldn't be able to do so in person.

I've learned that my southern stroll as I like to call it (or, my uncanny ability to generally walk slower than everyone around me) is actually easier to enjoy up here. At home people just observe and say, "you walk really slow." This upsets me. It is better in New York because here there are ordered and socially acceptable times when a person can walk as slow as they want. I've made a list below for your convenience.

Appropriate times for slow walking:

In the elevator. (Seriously)

On a very wide sidewalk where there may be only 2 to 5 people in a 10 yard area directly in front and behind you.

Passing an accident (someone slammed into the back of a cab)

Passing a demonstration for free health care (at which the only demand/or point of protest was for free hugs, and ultimately an unspoken one for a dance club/skate park in Union Square)

The Upper West Side on Claremont Avenue/Riverside Dr between 116th and 122nd.: Pretty much leisurely walking central.

Inappropriate times for slow walking:

In the subway (I didn't do this one, I realized this after being behind the world's slowest teenage girls. Many people wanted to kick them. –This sentiment was felt, never stated)

Getting off/on the train...Anytime trains are involved as a general rule of thumb.

Crossing the street. (No one waits for crosswalks anymore...you always have like 15 more seconds than they say anyways).

A race with a small child. Win that junk. seriously....God has given you every advantage.

And....Speed walking championship.

*Note that walking slow during inappropriate times in most places in Manhattan will make >50 people quietly mad at you– and if you continue long enough, numbers will increase and inevitably, >5 will say something

Let's do this again.

love,

joe
This was posted at www.blogger.com.

Moving about in the city of New York

So tomorrow I move for the 3rd time in the past two weeks and for the second time since arriving in New York City.
Let me give you a glimpse into how disheveled it has been by providing you with a list of my movements. (Not to
say that I haven't enjoyed it...I have)

Moving Day 1:

1. Arrive in JFK. One massive bag full of clothes, a guitar, and backpack
2. Took the massive awkward bag and guitar and bookbag onto the A train to Brooklyn. Got off the A and walk 5 blocks with the massive bag and guitar to my first residence.
3. For work everyday take the A train to Manhattan and then the same one back.

Moving Day 2:

4. After transporting my guitar to a new living location near the east village so I wouldn't have to carry it and my suitcase the next day. I make my way to work (crowded subway of course) with a large awkward suitcase that really can only reasonably be maneuvered on its wheels. Take my suitcase to work, hide it in the retouching room.
5. Take my suitcase to my next location which means getting on the A train (in post work subway traffic on a Friday afternoon...around 6pmish).
6. Transfer to the L train with awkward bag and awkward self.
7. Drag the bag 4 blocks to my newest location.
8. Find out the person I'm meeting isn't available so I have to check my bag into there hotel room which means getting a cab. (the cab was an enjoyable moving experience).
9. Finally move in that evening.

Moving Day 3:

10. This happens tomorrow. I get off work early so I can make a later engagement go back to my current residence, pick up dry cleaning (figure out how to transport clean ironed clothes, guitar, and already packed suitcase, without wrinkles developing), get my bag and la guitarra and hit the L train to the A train to the 2 train and then to the local 1 train. Then walk about 4 blocks uphill with my collection of junk and finally live
somewhere permanently for at least 2 months. hallelujah.

The great news is that I'm pretty good at getting around on the subway for someone whose been in NYC for only 2 weeks. I hope your summer is developing beautifully.

–Joe
This was posted at www.blogger.com.

Thanks

Thanks to everyone who came out to the show at Little Church last night! It will be called the "Extol EP" and will have five
worship songs that I've been working on for close to a year now. We
recently recorded 4 of the songs in a studio in Easley, SC and I have been
producing and finishing them up in the past few weeks...and will continue
to do so for a few more. There is still tons of work to be done and another
song to be recorded, but I'm happy and blessed to do the work.

This album is meant to be an offering of praise; whch is why it will be
titled the "Extol Ep". Extol means to praise highly; laud; Eulogize.
My hope for the album is that it does just that– and brings glory
to God in whatever way he sees fit.

I will also be releasing a single called "Blue Sky Summers" on iTunes by the
end of this month. It's a song that features Mr. Doc Allison, a celloist
and rapper based out of L.A.. I need to clarify what I mean exactly when
I say Doc is a celloist and rapper...he plays the cello and raps at the
same time.Go search him on youtube and myspace...The song is
completely different from anything I've done and has got everything
from beatboxing to rapping, with guitar and cello all thrown in there
together. Be sure to stay in touch so you can hear it once it's released!
This was posted at www.blogger.com.

Joe McCready Live Online Solo Performance

Thursday, January 22 Joe will be shooting a online concert in Lexington, SC that will be streamed for live viewing online! Suggest some friends for your friend.

So I was wasting time on Facebook when I noticed at the bottom of your friend's page there is a link where you can suggest friends for that person. This is a great idea. Now if someone has really awful friends you can let them know by offering them what you think is a better set of friends. I haven't done this yet myself mainly because I'm afraid the system won't be as awesome as I'm imagining it to be. I really just hope that after you pick some better friends for your friend you're able to send them a message telling them why these friends are better. The only exception for the messages though is that you have to be extremely blunt and use less than five words. Honest statements like "doesn't smell", "not a jerk", "not loud and obnoxious", would also help your friend learn what the current friends they have are really like.
This was posted at www.blogger.com.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://joemccready.blogspot.com/2008/09/facebook-suggest-some-friends-for-your.html' title='Facebook. I've been really blessed to get the opportunity to play and I'm very grateful.
This was posted at www.blogger.com.

Pray for the Midwest: Home is such a sweet, sweet thing

I've been reading a lot recently on the flooding in the midwest that is a result of the rise of the Mississippi River. People are having to gather their belongings and move to dry land...a lot of these people are doing this for the second time in their lives. My grandparents and Aunt & Uncle used to live in Abilene, Kansas and in the 90's this same thing happened. I was little, but I do remember my parents calling them and talking about people moving and leaving their homes. We went out there that Christmas (like we do every year!), and I remember seeing what the earth looks like flooded for the first time. When I think about it now and all that it affects, it makes me want to do something, especially since I'm far from home and miss it. Home is such a sweet, sweet thing, and to think that families have to leave what they've invested their dreams, prayers, and love into is such a sad thing. Not only are these people going to having to rebuild their houses, their livelihood is ruined for the year and possibly the next. Farmers crops have been lost, washed away...I really hope that when all of us see the rise in prices in the grocery store that will come because of this, we'll be moved to serve.
I was talking with a friend I met out here in L.A. from Louisiana about the flooding and Katrina and the differences. One thing he said that impressed me was the differences in how the people in the areas have responded differently. He brought up something I'd never heard; that a big reason it was so difficult for the National Guard to come in and work was because when they showed up armed, (to prevent looting, and enforce some kind of order in what was essentially a swamp) citizens fired at them. I put a link to a story that is one example of this that is just ridiculous...The midwest is coming together and people are helping each other, struggling together to get through this situation. It's funny that when people work together to fix something, that the media doesn't give that story as much light as the rest of the news. I had a professor last semester that said that the media is always negative, stay out of it. I guess he was right.

Pray for the midwest.

This was posted at www.blogger.com.

if you seen the leprechaun say, "yeah"

So I finished a song a I've been working on for 3 months. (quick stat: most people don't live too long after having one done if they're over 70, my grandmother fell in this category) The surgeon prayed with my mom and her family before the surgery and my mom just said that their was an extremely calming sense about him that she knew was a gift from God. Turns out he was one of the most well known and best surgeons in the area, and had a track record of having very successful surgeries and patient recoveries. The oddest part of the story was that my mom said that you could just tell that he was going to heal my grandmother through surgery because there was an overwhelming sense that God was going to guide his hands because he had obviously been blessed with the skills of a surgeon and a touch of the Holy Spirit. To make a long story short, his name was Dr. Applebee, which she said actually meant "the apple of God's eye". She made reference to the Bible and how it says we are the apple of God's eye, and I found that interesting for some reason and made mental note of it.

It is actually brought up in a couple of places: Deut 32:10, Psalms 17:18, Proverbs 7:2, Zech 2:8. Deuteronomy 32:10 (NASB version) actually says it a little differently "...he guarded him as the pupil of his eye." Sight is seen as precious by all people; and by saying that something is the object of your sight...or the apple of your eye, you are saying that it is precious, it is something you adore and love. The phrase is used in the Bible as a way of pointing to God's unending love for his children. He has truly made us the apple of his eye through the mighty things he has done; from sending his own son to die for the sins that we have committed, to blessing us with this awesome thing called life. The song ended up being written from the point of view of a boy who sees a girl that is righteous, precious, and beautiful in his eyes, no matter the circumstances of his situation. But the whole thing is a result of the love God has poured down upon us. It's completely weird to think of where stuff comes from sometimes.

The best things come after the most difficult times.

This was posted at www.blogger.com.

Roscoe's Chicken and Waffles. oh me, oh my.

So Los Angeles is a cool city once you get used to it, everyone should check it out at least once. I've been playing open mic nights around town (about 2 or 3 a week) and collaborating with two artists that I've met out here. If you've got time check out Gabby Wortman's stuff (www.myspace.com/gabriellewortman), she's an awesome, young, classically trained pianist, who has got loads of talent and a fantastic voice. Furthermore do some research on a guy you will definitely hear of in the future named Doc Allison. Doc raps to the cello and guitar, can sing, and well...I shouldn't have to say anymore than that; he's ridiculously good. I hope to put out some songs that we've done together in the near future. The box says it has 9 servings and that a serving size is 4. I decided that those are just the suggested serving sizes for the girl scouts; not for me. I realized that I had ruined my dinner about 5 minutes after I finished the mints...and that it wasn't my best idea yet...however, I must say I'm slightly proud of myself. I back to the hotel from playing and got a drink and was going to get some snack out of a vending machine. They had Elvis Reese's Pieces. Yes...Elvis' face is on the front. And they are peanut butter and banana creme. I didn't realize they had banana in them till after I bought them. I ate them anyways, but it's not a really awesome combination. I don't even know how you would go about making banana creme, but I'm sure it's a gross process.
This was posted at www.blogger.com.

Get Simple Songs on Ruckus

SIMPLE SONGS ON RUCKUS

If you're at Clemson you should have gotten the e-mail that Clemson University now officially endorses Ruckus, which has had the Simple Songs album on it for some time now. scheme='http://www.blogger.com/atom/ns#' term='taadaaa'/>
I'm finished. But then again, you never are.

So I'm going to start writing on blogger again (if you're seeing this from facebook it's a feed from my website's music blog). I haven't written in a while and don't really feel guilty about it at all. But after working on the same songs and forcing myself to not write for such a long time, the idea of putting stuff down on anything sounded really good to me (and slightly exciting...And I'm completely aware of how lame that sounds).

ON THE WAY TO WASHINGTON is going to be manufactured next week, and I will have a concrete online iTunes release date once the disc are all made. The album has been mastered by Jonathan Belzley of Lurssen Mastering in Los Angeles, and as a result of working with Jonathan on a lot of things I think the album's sound blows away the first album's sonice landscape with a howitzer. There are songs that bring out a completely new sound for me; but there are still others that have the same acoustic, driving, mellow rhythm that I absolutely love. I really think that this one of the most independent albums you can find. It is all original material, I recorded all the tracks except for the full set (which we did in Easley..each song has an average of 20), self-produced, and mixed everything over a period of 8 months.

God is amazing.
I'm really proud of this thing. Not because it will be something that I made, but because it was something that was made in spite of me. I know that I'm so capable of screwing things up, that I know I absolutely need God in my life to aid and guide me. Because when it comes down to it, I'm not going to get anywhere with my music unless God opens the doors for me; I can try all I want (and I still doa and will) but I know it is completely out of my hands. And I'm glad that it is, because the music industry is full of the most crooked, self-promoting people you will ever meet (makes me want to scream..), and I really mean that in a nice way. The process of making this thing has exhausted my body, worn down my heart, and tested my soul; and still continues to do so. I know that if God had not put a few generous and encouraging souls from Clemson to even places like Los Angeles..especially clemson...in the past 3 or 4 months, things would have folded completely. I'm so thankful for God's guidance then, and for what he has done for me and will do for me in the coming months.

I'm pretty much more broke than I've ever been. This is strange for two reasons:

A: I'm in college so I was already broke. (side note: I've been interning for the past few months and saving up money. BUT I ALSO happened to spend all of it this week on getting a cds made...I knew that was gonna happen...I saw it coming.)

B: I find the fact that I may not be able to buy enough gas to make it to work all next week both ADVENTUROUS AND EXCITING. (Also, take some time to notice how adventurous and exciting adventurous and exciting looks when put in all caps)
I need a more efficient vehicle. Preferably a helicopter.

Also, I have started (...trying at least) to book dates for a tour in March in which I only have one date anchored down currently (and you swing the rest of the shows around the anchor...it has nothing to do with boats or water at all..and kinda doesn't make sense..at all). So everything that is difficult is just ending and beginning at the same time. In other words: A lot is going on. Any prayers are always appreciated, & PLEASE WATCH FOR THE SINGLE THAT WILL BE RELEASED NEXT WEEK.
This was posted at www.blogger.com.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://joemccready.blogspot.com/2007/11/im-finished-but-then-again-you-never.html' title='I'm finished. I've learned that most of the great innovators in the 40s and 50s in the jazz world were also tremendous crack addicts. It was sort of exciting. I can't focus sometimes, nothing that was discussed today was gonna be on the final so I didn't have to focus. I came back to the apartment I'm living in for the next two weeks (cause the lease on my other place ended and I'm going back to the Charlotte area for a few months) and saw that there was no real food, only biscuits in a can that you have to cook. So I cooked them. I put some cheese on them and they were ok but I've had better. biscuits and cheese. That's it.

ABOUT THE CD.

We're working on design for the album cover now...shuffling through photo shoot ideas, and other specifics. I decided to put myself actually on this album cause I think its time to do that. my only fear is my pale skin. Sometimes I look like I have pigment in me and sometimes in the wrong lighting (namely the sunlight) I look really really white. Which is fine. It's the whole blonde hair, blue eyes thing I suppose. The cd is gonna have 12 songs and we're gonna start choosing once Blake gets back in town from working Student Life camp to finish recording the bass parts. once more concrete details are made I'll put them up.

Hope all is well & God Bless,

Joe McCready
This was posted at www.blogger.com.

Online Radio Airplay, international.

If you're not doing anything tomorrow and the 24th (23rd and the 24th) Go to pulserated.com and vote for Joe McCready on his artist page to have his music
played more often on shows on the station. But I'm just gonna name a few. This side or scotch and chocolate by Nickel Creek both grab my fancy, also I think I've forced myself into a coffee addiction in the past 36 hours due to exams. And I'm ok with that. Furthermore, I've been blessed with some great new songs, that surprise myself? to say the least. Notably because they are all praise songs... which is amazing for me (as a writer) because I don't sit down and set out to "write a song". Every time I have done that I don't get what I want to come out. The best stuff is just from an overwhelming need to write about whatever is weighing on me in order to release it...I'm weird of enough to usually have a chorus or a catchy line pop in my head sometime during the day from something I see somewhere or hear, and from that songs are made...So to have 4 to 5 songs of praise is something I'm so thankful for receiving in the past 3 weeks...just to have them as my own is awesome, but to know that I'm seeing God so much around me is the best part of the whole thing. It makes every single thing better... where I'm at, everything I love, all that I fear, all that I lack, and anything that is painful or uncertain...has become and is just another way God has blessed me. Recording is going to be difficult this summer due to band member schedules so I'm excited about how things are going to turn out. Blake (bassist, original saboteur & confidant) will be gone all summer so we're trying to get what we can down with him while he is here. Greg is going to be an hour away, so everything is everywhere...It seems like we're gonna have to puzzle piece the whole thing together instrument by instrument and pray that we can get something that sounds great after everything is all said and done. but we'll see how she flies.

-joe
This was posted at www.blogger.com.

traveling

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_KMKXKjA_mEI/RgA5M_zC7jI/AAAAAAAAAAM/rL9wI3Eo4eQ/s200/DSCF0826.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5044094478101704242" />
Felt the need to put a blog up for the site, since it says that's where current information is. I actually did a phone interview today with the reviewer about Christian music ministry, and the state of Christian music...which might be used for an article? we'll see...Regardless, it was the first time I'd done any press interview over the phone, and the first time someone had asked my opinion on Christian music and ministry, which is something I really care about. Also, I've recently been very blessed with shows in places I haven't played before. During my spring break I'm going to be playing in Nashville, TN, St. Louis, MO,
Springfield, IL, and Richmond, KY all in one week. Jason is coming too. Today
we sat around and ate all day and then went for a walk. My nephew whose 5 likes riding his older
brother's bike, which is a little too big for him. His feet can reach the peddles, but his feet can't reach
the ground, so stopping is a problem. Furthermore, he doesn't know how to make U-turn on a bike
yet so he just keeps going straight till hes way ahead of everyone. His solution to this problem was
simple. When he got to far ahead of everyone and wanted to stop he would just pull over to the side
of the road where the grass was and would just tip over and crash. This was the first time it had happened to me since I had been at Clemson and it was terrific. It happened like 8 times last year at Auburn which was nice but I was starting to think it never did here. So I got out of class early and it was great. I walked over to Sikes Hall and sat down and then I got to watch the fire trucks go by! They honked their horns and everything it was awesome and I really wanted to clap and yell but I thought that might have been innapropriate. By far the most exciting 5 mins I've had at Clemson.
This was posted at www.blogger.com.

Chasing Cars and life

Do to a lot of things that have been going on it's the right time to start planning/recording a second cd. right now I'd like to get it finished before I'm 20, but we'll see how things fall into place. Check out this new site called lastfm.com, it's kind of like myspace, but not...it's based around what music you play on itunes and it takes your stats and based on that info shows you other people that have similiar musical tastes. It also lets you find new artists based on their simliarity to other better known artists that you like. Regardless, I keep realizing how truly blessed I am; through the people I've met in the past couple of years and the steps that have been made. I'm tempted to use the word "connections" but I don't like to think of friendships in that manner because it means that you've found a resource and not a friend; and I'd rather have friends than resources. I don't want to be something that someone can use for their benefit and I don't want to use others for mine. The only way I can actually do that is by trying my best to do what benefits the kingdom of heaven the most...and when I sit back and read that all I can really think is that this is gonna hurt. And I hate that, but it is true. I've lost more friendships, had more dissapointments, and have lost more people that I had held close to my heart in the past year than I can ever remember. This is not easy it will never be... and that's so ok with me right now.

joe
This was posted at www.blogger.com.

I hate math

So I'm waiting on my teacher to arrive for her office hours for my statistics course. We have to fix the problems on our the exam we just took that we missed. She gave us a study guide which I completely followed. I was assuming that if it was truly a guide concerning what I should study in order to do well on the exam....then I should do well on the exam. So there were problems that weren't mentioned in the guide and I can't find an example of them in the book. It should be noted that I have a history of being bad at math and that I hate numbers. I can do geometry pretty well for some reason but when it comes to mathematical concepts that I will never have a desire to use I tend to have trouble. So anything involving algebra, statistics, calculus etc, I can't do very well. I don't think that its due to a lack of intelligence, but more so due to the fact that no one explains the simple things that I need to hear anymore. Everyone just assumes everyone knows it. Well I don't so teach me everything. Tell me what this greek symbol means cause it doesn't apply to my world today until you do so. Teach me and I will learn, until then I will continue to hate math and the people who have failed to teach me it in a decent manner. Which would be all but one teacher in my entire life. I don't really hate them...but they should probably find a new job cause they aren't doing the one they have now. We sold a couple cds, had a decent size crowd of friends, and caught the attention of some people who were just there playing pool. The last point is the most encouraging to me...once you can take someone's attention away from something they're participating in or doing, then you know that you're getting through to them...which is the goal so that's good. Greg, and I and possibly Blake will be back probably next week (don't know what time yet)...so it will be a full band show. I forget this a lot, and have to kind of stop and think where I am, where I've been, and where I'm going. As long as someone is being touched by the music I make, then I'm completely satisfied with where I'm at right now. I would love for it to be more people, but given the difficulties in getting music out to a large audience without a major budget, those I've reached for now are more than enough. I'm confident that more people will be reached through my music than I can ever imagine, and I'm excited about the possibilities. God is everywhere, always.

joe
This was posted at www.blogger.com.

Gameday

So I'm going to my first Clemson game as a student and I'm probably the worst fan ever. I like it. I think I like it cause its quiet. I don't have class for another 3 hours, which stinks because I'm really tired. I went to the Goo Goo Dolls/Counting Crows concert with some friends on Tuesday night, and got about 5 hours of sleep before my 9 am the next day. I came home after class and had to run some errands, one being to pick up some straws because I like to make chocolate milkshakes...and you need straws to drink milkshakes. That was the extent of my day. the end.
This was posted at www.blogger.com.

Stuff

I played at New Brookland Tavern on Tuesday night, and it was good to see all the people that came out...especially the freshman at USC from Fort Mill. Mike (the booking manager) and I have been discussing and working on dates for a full band show in October which would be a great opportunity. The cd is now on cdbaby.com so people can buy it there and hopefully digital distribution will start soon through the companies Cd Baby works with. If you're looking for new or old independent artist's cds definitely go there...Finding a good place to play in Clemson seems pretty hard right now, but there are several places I have in mind that could open up. If you haven't heard my music, go to www.joemccreadymusic.com and listen to the player...or you can go to www.purevolume.com/joemccready...feel free to say hey.

joe
This was posted at www.blogger.com.

yep

so the sweetreats show went well and we sold 21 cds which was good. Thanks to all who came out and stuck around! The same day I got my registration stuff from ASCAP so I have that set up as an artist and I now have a publishing entity too (Fairly Fine Publishing). I thought I was getting my certificate of copyright from congress in the mail when I saw the envelope, but it turns out the U.S. postal service decided to irradiate my copyright claim in order to destroy biocontaminants. which is wierd so I have to send everything in again.
